What's new.
A running log of improvements shipped to Lornic since launch.
v1.13
Big impact effects across all packs
May 29, 2026
- Norse — Thunder — real jagged lightning bolt sprite strikes down from the sky on impact; intensity scales bolt count, width, and brightness
- Cyberpunk — Hack — cascading columns of actual code characters rain down; glitch tear flashes at die height
- Nautical — Drench — individual teardrop droplets arc outward and fall under gravity on impact, like a realistic water splash; intensity controls droplet count and spread
- Nautical — Bombard — flying wood/stone debris chunks scatter outward with gravity and bounce; a brief filled explosion flash (not a ring) reads as a cannon blast
- Space — Rocket — 5–8 discrete exhaust jets shoot outward along the floor on landing, like thruster gas deflected by a landing pad; distinctly directional rather than a uniform ring
- Eldritch — Seep — 2–4 concentric void rings spawn at large radius and shrink toward center with alternating spin directions
- Nature — Rot — cluster of mushrooms (stems, dome caps, spots, rot-green glow) grows from the felt on impact; more mushrooms at higher intensity
- Ancient — Curse — Egyptian curse seal (concentric rings, ankh glyphs, Eye of Horus) expands on the floor on impact
- Ancient — Sunfire — golden sun disc with 8 alternating rays rotates and expands on impact
- Fantasy — Frozen — delicate dendritic frost branches (thin recursive lines, not spikes) spread gently across the felt; distinct from Norse crystal shards
- Intensity scaling — all floor-impact effects now fully respond to the intensity slider: higher intensity means bigger splats, more debris, longer-lived marks, and brighter flashes across every pack
v1.12
Readable numbers under every effect
May 25, 2026
- Numbers on top — face numbers now render above the surface texture (runes, hieroglyphs, leaves, gears, rivets, wood grain) with a crisp outline, so busy patterns no longer bury the digits.
- Metallic dice — strongly reflective finishes (brushed steel, polished brass, lead, lapis, dark iron, obsidian) no longer wash out to a bright blob when an effect is active; the rolled number stays legible.
- Self-lit numbers — the rolled number (and D6 pips) now give off their own light, staying brighter than the die surface, so they read even through intense glow or a fully washed-out finish — across every die type (d4–d20, d100). Effect glow is also capped so it can't blow out the die, while particles keep the drama.
- Texture stays intact — the glow is cleared only around the number's own shape (not a big circle behind it), so surface patterns like rivets and wood grain stay visible right up to the digits.
- Norse Thunder bolt — the lightning strike on die impact is now a single jagged full-height bolt instead of a column of dots, with a bright white core, blue-white mid-glow, and wide diffuse outer glow.
v1.11
Norse effects overhaul
May 17, 2026
- Thunder — a burst of upward lightning shoots from the die's top face on floor contact, with a central flash glow.
- Mist — reworked as a heavy ground-hugging fog blanket with a gentle, consistent breeze that slowly drifts puffs off screen.
- Frost — redesigned as frosted glass on the table: large translucent ice patches spread across the felt when dice land, replacing falling snow with subtle table-level glints.
v1.10
Home art polish and bug fixes
May 17, 2026
- Norse home art — replaced the crossed-paddle axes with a bearded battle axe (upper-left) and an iron warhammer (lower-right); blade and hammer head gleam alternately
- Steampunk home art — replaced the spinning ring with two meshing brass gears, an L-shaped copper pipe with rivets, an animated pressure-gauge needle, and rising steam puffs
- Ancient home art — replaced the rotating sun-disc rings with four corner hieroglyphs: Eye of Horus, scarab beetle, djed pillar, and ankh cross
- Nature home art — replaced cardinal leaf clusters with a layered three-tier pine tree and two organic vine tendrils curling up from the trunk
- Eldritch "whisper" gradient restored — the v1.8 CSS refactor accidentally washed out the vivid lime-to-dark-olive two-tone on the headline verb; restored to the original hand-tuned values
- Nature and Steampunk floor-impact crash fixed — a null die reference in the physics collision handler was crashing the animation loop the moment any die hit the floor on those two packs
- Ancient colour palette — die faces, lighting, and home-page background rethemed to a Nile-and-desert palette: sandy brown faces, Nile-blue fill lighting, teal die-stage glow, and a brown-with-blue-accent page background
- Steampunk colour palette — die faces, decoration, lighting, and home-page background rethemed to steel grey and grit: iron-grey faces, cold workshop lighting, charcoal page background with a dim ember-warmth fill
v1.9
Shareable pack links
May 17, 2026
- Share button — tap the link icon in the bottom-left to copy a URL that encodes your exact setup: pack, effect, texture, intensity, theme, and die type
- Hash-based state — opening a share link restores every encoded setting instantly, with no flash on the theme even on first paint
- How-to-play pack tabs — effects and textures on the how-to-play page are now browsed per-pack via a tab bar, keeping the page compact as more packs are added
v1.9
Four new packs
May 16, 2026
- Ancient pack — 5 effects (scarab shimmer, sun ray burst, sandstorm swirl, plague locusts, curse miasma) with physics particles and felt marks; 5 textures including lapis lazuli metallic body and a sarcophagus inner-mode death mask
- Norse pack — 5 effects (thunder sparks, frost snowflakes, blood moon droplets, orbiting rune sprites, drifting mist) with felt frost patches and blood pools; 5 textures including dark iron metallic body and an ice crystal inner-mode snowflake
- Steampunk pack — 5 effects (galvanic sparks, billowing steam, pressure vents, aetheric orb orbits, coal fire) with a wind system and felt scorch/soot marks; 5 textures including polished brass body and a clockwork inner-mode gear assembly
- Nature pack — 5 effects (flower petals + splats, rain streaks + expanding ripples, breathing bioluminescent spores, decay miasma + rot spots, green faerie fire + scorch) with layered particles; 5 textures including obsidian body and a fossil amber inner-mode dragonfly
- Unique home art — each pack now has a thematically distinct die decoration: sun disc + ankh cross (Ancient), crossed throwing axes (Norse), gear teeth ring + bolt holes (Steampunk), pine tree + vine tendrils (Nature)
v1.8
Pack-driven pages
May 16, 2026
- Pack-driven home carousel — each pack now owns its own marketing copy, effect chips, and SVG die art; adding a new pack no longer requires editing any HTML
- Pack-driven how-to-play — effect tiles and texture pills are generated at runtime from pack data so every pack's descriptions and colors stay in one place
- CSS custom properties — effect colors are injected at runtime as
--fx-<packId>-<effectId>variables, removing hardcoded hex values from CSS
v1.7
Texture visibility fixes
May 15, 2026
- Texture contrast restored — the environment map added for metallic dice was over-brightening plain dice and washing out overlay patterns; non-metallic dice now use a lower environment intensity so brand marks, runes, and other overlays read clearly again
- Western Brand Mark — heavier stroke weight and higher opacity so the cattle-brand mark is immediately legible at any effect intensity
v1.6
SEO, Cancel-and-reroll, History polish
May 14, 2026
- Cancel-and-reroll — pressing roll while dice are still in flight restarts the throw without logging to history
- History detail — each history entry now shows the active effect and texture as a sub-label
- Keyboard shortcut fix — Cycle Textures moved from Ctrl+T (browser conflict) to T
- SEO — Open Graph / Twitter Card tags, canonical URLs, JSON-LD structured data, robots.txt, and sitemap added to all pages
- Changelog page — this page
v1.5
PWA — installable offline app
May 13, 2026
- PWA manifest and service worker — Lornic is now installable on Android and iOS as a standalone app
- Offline play — Workbox precaches the full app shell including the three.js bundle
- Brand icons — generated favicon, Apple touch icon, and 192/512 maskable PWA icons from the orange-L mark
- Fixed multi-page PWA routing so
/game.html?pack=resolves correctly from the service worker cache
v1.4
Sound effects and roll modifiers
May 12, 2026
- Procedural sound effects — each floor impact plays a bandpass-noise clatter scaled by impact velocity (throttled to 6 simultaneous sounds)
- Per-effect audio — fire crackles, ice cracks, poison bubbles, and so on layer onto the base impact sound
- Roll modifier — a +/− N popover above the roll button supports flat bonuses for rolls like 2d6+4; quick presets +1/+3/+5; button turns gold when active
v1.3
Textures, keyboard shortcuts, shake-to-roll
May 11, 2026
- Real material textures — Carbon Fiber (Cyberpunk) and Rope Weave (Nautical) now use proper tangent-space normal-like shading instead of flat decals
- Keyboard shortcuts — Space, Ctrl+H, Ctrl+1–7, ↑↓, +/−, 0, Ctrl+E, T, Ctrl+M fully bound with tooltips on each UI control
- Shake-to-roll — DeviceMotion shake detection (threshold 18 m/s²) with 1.2 s cooldown; iOS 13+ permission requested on first touch
- Eliminated the fantasy-green color flash when loading a non-fantasy pack
v1.2
Six packs and inner-object textures
May 4–6, 2026
- Cyberpunk pack — chrome panels, neon grid, effects: Glitch, Pulse, Streak, Hack, Shatter
- Nautical pack — salt-bleached planks, maritime effects: Bombard, Drench, Seize, Sway, Shower
- Western pack — frontier justice, effects: Swirl, Crack, Tumble, Detonate, Strike
- Eldritch pack — things that should not roll, effects: Writhe, Devour, Watch, Seep, Bloom
- Inner-object textures — semi-transparent die material with a sprite sealed inside (Glacial, Arcane Orb)
- Streak and Shatter got distinct visual identities (tapered tracers vs. metallic shard sprites)
v1.1

- Space pack — grey starship-deck / obsidian-void table, effects: Laser, Rocket, Plasma, Vacuum, Warp
- Pack carousel — landing page shows all packs in a swipeable carousel with prev/next arrows and dot indicators
- Pack-specific table colors — each pack sets its own felt CSS variables; colors apply before first paint
- Refactored site into a Vite multi-page build; three.js and cannon-es bundled as npm dependencies
- Improved die-table contrast for Space pack in both light and dark themes
